TITLE: “KITCHEN TABLE—TASTY CONVERSATIONS”
WHAT: An improvisational performance exploring
The joys and merits of gardening in Wilhelmsburg.
WHEN: SATURDAY AUGUST 16 6:30pm to 7:30pm
WHERE: Outside the Tonne Building alongside the Canal
THE SETTING: On the south patio outside the Tonne, there will be a long table, covered with tablecloths, surrounded by growing garden plants. This table represents everyone’s own kitchen table. Although our lives are unique, we share the concept of the kitchen table as a special place that nurtures health and ideas.
THE PERFORMANCE:
Gardeners bring samples of food grown by them from their gardens and wear clothes symbolic or representative of their garden. Baskets will be provided to hold the food, unless gardeners prefer something they want to bring themselves.
While talking to guests, gardeners will slice vegetables into small tastes that they offer to guests to stimulate palettes and conversation.
Gardeners invite guests to sit down at the table and stay a while to taste and to talk.
Gardeners are encouraged to talk about their own particular gardens--how and why they like to grow their own food; how guests could either start their own small garden or join their group; special tips or advice for growing healthy organic food locally.
